Community Guidelines

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 10 August 2026

What we expect from each other, what happens if it goes wrong, and how to appeal.

One rule, really

Everyone here is someone who decided to walk into a room of strangers hoping to make a friend. That takes nerve. Treat her like it did.

Everything below is that idea, written out properly so it can be enforced.

1. Where these guidelines apply

1.1These guidelines apply in three places: on the Platform, at Experiences, and in any contact between members that came about because of Chérie.

1.2That last one matters. If you meet someone at an Experience and then message her on Instagram, that contact started here. If it turns into harassment, we will act on it, even though it did not happen on our app.

1.3They form part of our Terms of Service. Breaking them can cost you your Membership.

2. Your profile

What we ask

AgeYou must be 18 or over. We may ask you to verify your age, and we will close accounts that misrepresent it.
NameUse the first name you actually go by. Your surname is never shown to other members, and you do not have to give a surname on your profile at all. We hold your legal name for billing and for safety, and we may ask you to verify it.
PhotoA clear, recent, recognisable photo of your face, without heavy filters, text or graphics. Group photos make it hard for your Group to find you. No photos of other people without their permission.
IntroductionWritten by you, about you. Do not include your surname, employer, street, phone number or social handles unless you are comfortable with every member of your Group having them.
One accountOne person, one account. If we close your account you may not open another unless we agree in writing.

3. The rules

Each of these comes with an example, because “be respectful” means nothing until you can picture it.

Kindness and respect

Be curious about people who are not like you. Disagree without contempt. Assume the best until you have a reason not to.

Not this: Making someone the punchline for the rest of the table. Sustained sarcasm at one person’s expense. Talking over the quietest woman there.

No harassment or bullying

No insults, intimidation, humiliation, threats, or emotional pressure — at an Experience, in the group chat, or afterwards.

Not this: Repeatedly messaging someone who has stopped replying. Commenting on someone’s body or weight. Turning the group chat against one member. Following someone’s accounts after she asked you not to.

No discrimination or hate

Chérie is open to women, including trans women. Everyone here is entitled to be here.

No abuse or dehumanisation on the basis of sex, gender reassignment, race, nationality, religion or belief, sexual orientation, disability, age, pregnancy or maternity, or marriage or civil partnership.

Not this: Questioning whether another member belongs here. Slurs, or “just asking questions” that amount to the same thing. Mocking an accent, a name, a body, or a faith.

No sexual harassment or unwanted sexual conduct

No explicit or suggestive content, no unsolicited sexual images, no unwanted sexual remarks, no threats to share intimate images. This applies to messages after an Experience as much as during it.

Not this: Sending an explicit image to the group chat. Sexual comments about a member’s appearance. Threatening to share something private.

Respect other members’ privacy

What happens in a Group stays in the Group unless everyone is happy for it not to.

Not this: Screenshotting the group chat and posting it. Sharing another member’s photo, surname, workplace or address. Posting a story from an Experience with someone identifiable in it who did not agree. Looking up members online and bringing what you found to the table.

Ask before you photograph

Plenty of people do not want to be in a photo, and almost nobody wants to say so out loud. Ask first, accept a no without making it awkward, and do not post anything with a member in it unless she has said yes to that specific post.

Not this: Filming the table for your story without asking. Posting a photo and tagging the venue and the date, which tells anyone reading exactly where a group of women were and when.

Not a marketplace, not a pitch deck, not a campaign

No selling, no recruiting, no multi-level marketing, no fundraising, no political campaigning, no soliciting clients. Talking about your job is normal. Working the table is not.

Not this: Handing out cards for your coaching business. Recruiting for a “business opportunity”. Canvassing for a party or a candidate.

Be who you say you are

No impersonation, no fake profiles, no borrowed photos, no lying about your age.

Never ask for money

Do not ask another member for money, for a loan, for financial details, or to invest in anything. Do not offer any of it either.

Not this: A hard-luck story that ends in a bank transfer. Crypto, forex, or an “opportunity” for a friend. Any of it is grounds for immediate removal.

Alcohol and drugs

Drink if you want to, at your own pace. Do not pressure anyone else, do not order for someone who did not ask, and do not turn up already drunk. Illegal drugs are not permitted at any Experience, and offering them to another member is grounds for immediate removal.

Not this: “Come on, one more.” Ordering a round of shots for a table that did not agree to one. Buying drinks for someone who is clearly past her limit.

No violence or threats

No threats, no promotion of violence, no stalking, no association with violent or extremist organisations. If you have a court order restricting your contact with others, you may not use Chérie.

Talking about mental health

You are allowed to have a hard time and say so. Real friendship includes the difficult parts, and we are not going to police that.

What we do not allow is content that glorifies, encourages or gives instruction in self-harm, suicide or disordered eating. If a conversation reaches a point where someone needs more than a friend can give, tell us, and step back — you are not responsible for holding it alone.

Support is listed at the end of our Safety Guidelines.

Child safety

Absolute zero tolerance. Any content or behaviour that sexualises or endangers a child results in immediate removal, preservation of evidence, and a report to the police and the appropriate authority. See our Child Safety Standards Policy.

No spam or scams

No bulk messaging, no misleading links, no phishing, no fake offers.

Do not spread false information about safety

Do not invent or circulate false claims about a Venue, an Experience or another member — the kind that cause real fear or real harm. This is a narrow rule about safety, not a rule about opinions. You are free to be wrong about most things.

4. Showing up

4.1Turn up, or cancel in time. Four people rearranged an evening around you. The cancellation window is on every listing.

4.2No guests. Your place is yours. You cannot bring a friend, a partner, or another member.

4.3Be on time. A group of five that starts at seven does not start at seven if you arrive at half past.

4.4Leaving early is completely fine. You never need a reason and it will never count against you. Say goodnight if you can, message us if you cannot.

4.5Repeated late cancellations or no-shows — three or more in two months — may cost you your ability to book. See clause 7.5 of the Terms.

5. After the Experience

5.1The group chat stays open. Use it or do not — nobody is obliged to become friends, and nobody should feel bad about a Group that did not click.

5.2If you swap numbers, that is between you. A woman giving you her number is not consent to be contacted repeatedly. If she goes quiet, let it go.

5.3If a member contacts you off-platform and you would rather she did not, tell us. We will act on it even though it happened elsewhere.

6. How we enforce this

We use both automated flagging and human review. A person always makes the final decision about an account.

LevelWhenWhat happens
A quiet wordA first, minor lapse. Usually thoughtlessness rather than malice. We contact you privately, explain, and that is the end of it.
Formal warningA clear breach, or a repeat after a quiet word.Recorded on your account. Content may be removed.
RestrictionRepeated breaches, or conduct affecting others’ experience. You keep your account but lose booking or Messaging access for a period.
SuspensionA serious breach, or while we investigate something serious.Access paused. We tell you why and how long, unless telling you would put someone at risk.
RemovalHarassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, violence or threats, fraud, child safety, or a pattern that has not stopped.Account closed permanently. No refund. You may not rejoin.
Police referralWhere we believe a criminal offence has occurred. We report it and preserve evidence. We will tell you unless doing so would prejudice an investigation or put someone at risk.

We can act immediately where someone is at risk

For anything involving a threat to a member’s safety, we will suspend an account first and investigate second. We would rather be wrong and reverse it than be careful and slow.

7. Reporting

7.1Report a member, a message or an Experience through the app, or email hello@cherie.social. You can also block someone without reporting her.

7.2We do not tell the person you reported her.

7.3We acknowledge every report within 24 hours and tell you the outcome within [To be completed — target time to tell a reporter the outcome, in days] days. Full detail is in our Complaints and Appeals Process.

7.4Report things that broke a rule, not things that annoyed you. Someone being dull, or disagreeing with you, or not liking you back, is not a report.

7.5Reporting someone in bad faith — to get her removed, or as retaliation — is itself a breach of these guidelines.

8. Appeals

You can always appeal. Every time.

If we warn, restrict, suspend or remove you, you have the right to appeal, and someone who was not involved in the original decision will review it.

Email hello@cherie.social within 14 days. We respond within 14 days.

We say this plainly because some platforms reserve the right to remove accounts without notice, reason or appeal. We do not.

9. Inactive accounts

9.1If you have not used Chérie for two years we will email you. If we do not hear back within 30 days, we close the account and delete your data. See our Privacy Policy.

10. Changes

10.1We will update these guidelines as we learn. Significant changes are emailed to members 30 days in advance, and previous versions are at cherie.social/legal/archive.
